The Agadir police, in collaboration with the Royal Navy and the Royal Gendarmerie, successfully foiled a major drug trafficking operation involving more than 10 tons of cannabis resin (locally known as Chira) aboard a fishing vessel on Sunday, according to a press release by the National Police (DGSN).
Searches and investigations conducted based on information provided by Morocco’s Intelligence Services (DGST) led to the interception of the vessel and the subsequent seizure of 10,542 kilograms of Chira packed into boxes, as well as the arrest of 13 fishermen for their alleged involvement in the criminal activity, DGSN reported.
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ), operating under the DGST, has been assigned to conduct a thorough investigation into the case, at the direction of the prosecutor’s office into persons involved in the criminal network and the attempted smuggling of the illicit substance, with a focus on regional and international connections.
