Moroccan National Police (DGSN) officers at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca intercepted a 40-year-old German national on Sunday, after noticing that Interpol had flagged the man based on an arrest warrant issued by Austrian judicial authorities, according to a DGSN press release.
The person suspected was on the verge of boarding a flight to a Turkish airport.
The apprehension occurred upon the suspect’s arrival at the airport. Following an examination of the Interpol database, he was identified as the subject of a “red notice.”
The wanted foreigner stands accused of involvement in financial fraud and property crimes.
The suspect was remanded into police custody pending further investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
Morocco’s Interpol Bureau is responsible for notifying the Austrian authorities of his detention before initiating extradition procedures.
