Morocco moved up three places to the 120th spot in the global Human Development Index (HDI) ranking, as indicated by the 2023-2024 Human Development Report published by the United Nations Development Program in New York.
The ranking highlighted the kingdom’s commitment to enhancing human development through key sectors such as education, health, and economic development, seeking to promote social inclusion and provide equitable opportunities, according to a statement from the National Observatory for Human Development (ONDH).
The Observatory pointed out that Morocco’s recent three-spot jump represents a significant milestone, as it is the first time in over a decade that such progress is made.
The ONDH underscored Morocco’s commitment to various social initiatives, such as healthcare and education reforms, expanded medical coverage, social and housing assistance programs, and childbirth incentives, which are all aligned with the Royal Directives.
The report on human development demonstrated Morocco’s continuing efforts to slash gender disparities while focusing on increasing women’s access to education, healthcare, and economic empowerment opportunities.
The report acknowledged tangible progress made by Morocco in sustainable development and social inclusion, and stressed the importance of improving educational and healthcare access, promoting economic integration, and combating climate change.
