An undersea tremor measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred in the region of Al Hoceima (Northern Morocco), on Friday evening, at 8:17 p.m.
According to Nasser Jebbour, Director of the National Institute of Geophysics (ING), the tremor was located at sea, just off the coast of the Driouch region, approximately 28 kilometers from the shoreline.
Jebbour confirmed that the quake was felt in several regions, including Al Hoceima, Driouch, and Nador, with no reported damages.
Jebbour informed the media that these particular regions have been experiencing daily mild earthquakes over the past three years, which is attributed to higher seismic activity in the area since 2021.
On September 8, Morocco’s south-central region was hit by a 6.8 temblor with its epicenter in Al Houz (near Marrakech), resulting in a significant number of casualties, nearly 3000 deaths, and widespread destruction.
