Head of the French National Police Frédéric Veaux praised his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Hammouchi, in a phone conversation on Friday, regarding the exceptional bilateral cooperation between France and Morocco in the security arena.
The two officials reaffirmed their satisfaction with the current security cooperation on various issues of mutual interest, expressing their strong desire to further develop this cooperation to an advanced level which enables them to confront all security risks and threats facing both countries.
This came in recognition of the National Police (DGSN) Services’ arrest of the “DZ Mafia” boss and the person most wanted by the French judiciary, Félix Bingui (i.e., “Cat,”) last Friday, for his alleged involvement in murder, score-settling criminality, death threats, and money laundering.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin had hailed Moroccan authorities’ efforts in arresting the drug trafficker.
Darmanin also praised Moroccan authorities for their efforts in tracking down the drug lord. “One of the biggest Marseille drug traffickers was arrested in Morocco,” he noted. “Congratulations to the police who relentlessly pursue the fight against drug trafficking.”
The police services also arrested a French national of Algerian ethnicity in Marrakech in mid-February. This individual had been sought by French authorities over suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking, money laundering, and unauthorized possession of firearms.
