Moroccan Monarch Mohammed VI’s aid to Palestine has arrived–first to Tel Aviv’s David Ben Gurion Airport—and finally delivered to Palestinians in need by land. This welcome development was considered to be of premier caliber, and a breakthrough, according to Morocco’s ambassador to the USA, Youssef Amrani, in an Interview with Al Jazeera on Tuesday.
King Mohammed VI, chairperson of Al Quds Committee–an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation–ordered the deployment of humanitarian aid to Gazawis and Al Quds inhabitants to alleviate the suffering of underprivileged sections of the community in this holy month of Ramadan.
The 40 tons of humanitarian supplies–primarily from the sovereign’s own funds–is intended to “alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people” and are dispatched via Moroccan military planes, he added.
The assistance came at “a very critical moment, which is the month of Ramadan,” as this month is a month of “fraternity, compassion, and solidarity,” added the ambassador.
The aid is earmarked for Gaza specifically, and a part of it will be distributed within the holy city of Jerusalem (Al Quds). That aid is comprised of basic foodstuffs, medical supplies, and equipment to reduce the suffering of Palestinian women, children, and elders, according to Amrani.
The operation was completed in accordance with the Palestinian Red Crescent, and it will be at the discretion of the Palestinians as to decide how to manage and distribute that aid equally.
In response to the journalist’s question about how Morocco received the “privilege” of delivering the support–as countless trucks sit motionless at Rafah’s border with Egypt as we speak–Amrani responded that it was an initiative which we (Moroccans) have taken […] for Morocco’s interests, which is “defending Palestinian people” via “diplomatic channels” and “friends” in the region to move forward.
The ambassador added that what is important for the moment is not the “how;” but rather the end result which is assisting the Palestinians.
