King Mohammed VI, chairperson of Al Quds Committee -–an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation –ordered the deployment of humanitarian aid by land to Palestinians in Gaza and Al Quds to alleviate the sufferings of underprivileged sections of the community in this holy month of Ramadan.
A statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday detailed that the Moroccan cargo comprises over 40 tons of basic foodstuffs. The Monarch will pay for a large part of the aid, particularly formulas and baby food for infants and toddlers. The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity will be in charge of institutional assistance.
Morocco is the first country to dispatch humanitarian aid via this land route since the outbreak of the Hamas-Israel conflict five months ago. The aid is meant to be delivered directly to Palestinians.
The King also directed the Bait Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency -–the operations arm of Al Quds Committee –to distribute 2,000 food baskets to 2,000 families living in Al Quds. 1,000 daily meals will be also handed to the city’s dwellers.
As part of the same humanitarian move, the Jerusalem hospital will be equipped with a hall for emergency coordination.
