National Police (DGSN) and Customs officials at Tanger-Med port successfully intercepted a vehicle arriving from Spain on Monday morning, which–when subjected to routine scanning procedures–revealed the existence of 13 kilograms of heroin hidden beneath its engine.
The driver, a 63-year-old Moroccan citizen holding Dutch nationality, was arrested during the joint operation.
The seized vehicle, registered in the Netherlands, underwent scanning procedures, uncovering a hidden bag beneath the engine containing a significant quantity of suspected solid narcotics, which were identified later as heroin.
Upon an initial inspection having confirmed the substance, officials immediately transferred the confiscated shipments to the police forensic laboratory for detailed technical and legal analyses.
Security sources reported the opening of a judicial investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, which is looking at other individuals who may also be connected to these criminal activities, with an eye on any potential regional and/or global links.
