Dakhla city in the south of Morocco will host the 7th edition of the “Morocco Today Forum” in July, featuring debates on Morocco’s Royal Initiative to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, to define the means to do it and the challenges to be met, MAP reported on Monday.
After six successful fora on topics such as the social state, advanced regionalization, and the role of women in Morocco’s development, this year’s theme is “Atlantic Africa, for an integrated, inclusive and prosperous continental region.”
Sponsored by Groupe Le Matin as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne, the international conference will bring together decision-makers, diplomats, business people, and experts from Morocco and the rest of the continent.
This year’s topic naturally follows from King Mohammed VI’s speech on last year’s anniversary of the Green March in November, marking a new milestone in development of the Kingdom’s southern provinces, and a new hope for development and prosperity for other countries on the African continent, especially those in the Sahel and on Africa’s Atlantic coast.
Representing a new dimension in the development of Morocco’s southern provinces and overall regional integration across Atlantic and Sahelian Africa, the initiative will require broad mobilization and coordination of actors from different horizons and territories, including officials, politicians, and private operators, both national and continental, in addition to experts and international cooperation and financing institutions.
As a forum for reflection and developing recommendations on topics inspired by the Royal Vision, the 7th edition of the “Morocco Today Forum” will bring together all stakeholders to explore and debate the potential means and challenges, and to formulate recommendations expected to be published in a White Paper.
