Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz has chosen to play for the Atlas Lions on the international stage instead of Spain, Spanish media reported on Sunday, and Sports journalist specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed.
The 24-year-old offensive midfielder had represented Spain at all youth levels, including the Under-17s, U19, and U21, but had yet to be called up to La Roja.
The Real Madrid star will now play alongside another Spanish-born Moroccan sensation and former Real Madrid teammate, Achraf Hakimi, who also chose to play for the Atlas Lions at the international level.
Despite a difficult start, Diaz emerged as one of Los Blancos’ standout performers this season under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring six goals in all competitions for the La Liga leaders since joining the team from AC Milan in the summer.
Meanwhile, the Morocco Football Federation played a significant role in persuading Diaz to join the Atlas Lions despite having previously represented Spain at the junior level.
