The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) Southern Zone Headquarters is hosting the final planning meeting for the “African Lion 2024” exercise from March 11-15, according to a press release from the FAR General Staff on Monday.
Representatives from approximately ten countries, including delegates from Morocco’s FAR and the United States Armed Forces, convened to finalize the details of the 20th edition of this multinational initiative.
The planned activities include training across various operational domains, exercises for senior officers, inter-arm and joint maneuvers, civil-military operations, and Nuclear, Radiological, Biological, and Chemical (NRBC) decontamination exercises.
The exercise seeks to increase collaboration and strengthen intervention skills in a multinational setting.
The “African Lion 2024” exercise, scheduled to take place from May 20-31 in the regions of Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tata, Kenitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit, is intended to cement collaborative ties between Morocco and the U.S.
Beyond strengthening military cooperation, the efforts aspire to enable exchanges between member nations’ armed forces, creating an atmosphere conducive to peace, security, and regional stability.
The military exercise, first launched in 2004 as part of a 1982 military cooperation agreement between Morocco and the U.S, is the largest multinational exercise on the African continent, involving thousands of soldiers, vehicles, and aircraft annually.
