In a joint sting operation, the National Police in Kenitra and Morocco’s territory surveillance services (DGST) aborted an alleged attempt to smuggle two tons and 145 kg of cannabis resin, locally known as chira, and apprehended two suspects aged 25 and 38, on Tuesday evening in Kenitra.
One of the suspects has a history of being associated with a criminal network that smuggles narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, according to the National Police.
The two suspects were arrested riding in a utility vehicle from the Kingdom’s northern region. A boat, two naval engines, two locating devices, a weapon, and 65 packages of chira were discovered during the operation.
The suspects were remanded into police custody pending further investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecution.
Joint security operations are part of efforts by the DGSN to combat international drug smuggling activities.
