On Friday, the Midparc integrated industrial platform and Shimco, a Canadian company operating in the aerospace industry, inked an agreement to open a plant in the Nouaceur free zone.
Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour, and Midparc Chairman Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi attended the signing ceremony, and welcomed Shimco’s choice to kick off operations in Morocco.
Shimco will take up a 1,300 m² surface area, and plans to double its capacity within three years, then triple it in the next seven years”, a fact that mirrors the quality, competitiveness and resilience of Morocco’s aeronautical bases, said El Andaloussi.
The Midparc head also highlighted the strong demand directed towards the Moroccan aerospace industry from major aircraft manufacturers, such as Boeing and Airbus, particularly in the forthcoming decade.
He also expressed Midparc’s satisfaction with the growing and diversified market, illustrated by the recent expansion of Spanish aeronautics group Aciturri, assuring that “further announcements are expected in the coming months”.
Shimco Chairman and CEO Peter Voss emphasized the importance of his company’s move, given the advantages Morocco offers in terms of production costs.
He added that Midparc is a booming industrial zone, especially as Shimco is looking to double its aerospace production capacity over the next three or four years.
Midparc is an extension of Casablanca’s aeronautics hub (Aéropole). It is already home to several multinationals, including Boeing and Stelia Maroc, and offers an exceptional and unique logistical position between Europe and Africa.
