Algeria is no longer involved in inter-Malian mediation, as stated by Mali’s Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maïga. This decision was taken in response to recent antagonistic actions by the Algerian regime, including welcoming Malian opposition figure Imam Mahmoud Dicko during the inauguration of the grand mosque in Algiers.
On Monday evening, Malian Prime Minister Maïga attacked Algeria in a speech before political party representatives and civil society activists.
Regarding the 2015 agreement signed under Algeria’s supervision, Maïga reiterated, “After a long and heavy political and financial investment and a nine-year patience, it had turned out to be non-applicable.” In declaring it null and void, the government has taken “…a responsible, well-considered and highly patriotic decision,” he defended.
Maïga criticized Algeria for its recent diplomatic tensions, citing hostile acts such as the warm reception of Tuareg rebels by Algeria.
He also expressed concern over the repeated reception of opposition figure Mahmoud Dicko by President Abdelmajid Tebboune, and reminded the Algerian government of its questionable actions during the recent Non-Aligned Movement summit in Uganda.
