More than 100 Spanish police officers have been carrying out an operation in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) to locate and arrest the alleged perpetrators of the kidnapping of a Moroccan citizen, reported Spanish news agency Europa Press recently.
Police reportedly carried out five searches in various parts of Sanlúcar. During one on February 20, agents found traces of gunshots fired at an individual who had been kidnapped in the middle of Molinillo Street in Sanlúcar de Barrameda supposedly to settle scores related to drug trafficking. The man was taken at gunpoint in broad daylight by hooded men and put into a van which then fled, according to police sources.
Shortly afterward, police found one of the alleged vehicles used in the kidnapping on another street in the town.
A court in Sanlúcar on Sunday released three people pending charges. They had been detained in connection with the kidnapping and are considered to be the masterminds, the news agency subsequently reported.
