In the past few days, Moroccan agro-food giant Dari Couspate has been the subject of a boycott campaign that several Moroccans launched on social media because the company is allegedly maintaining commercial ties with Israel and thus indirectly contributing to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Following these allegations, Dari Couspate stated in a press release on Monday that it “has never signed or concluded (neither in 2024, nor in 2023, nor even before) any agreement or partnership contract with Israel or any Israeli public or private company.”
“In the past, if Dari products were imported in small quantities into the Israeli market, it was to meet the demand of consumers attached to Morocco and its traditions. These products were distributed by retailers in that country and Palestine,” added Dari.
The Moroccan company noted that it remains “committed to its values of ethics and social responsibility and in the face of the human tragedy experienced by the Palestinian people,” and “does not consider exporting its products to the Israeli market.”
Dari is one of the leading Moroccan groups in the agro-food industry, from cereal processing (wheat and barley) to marketing (couscous and pasta), and it operates in about sixty countries.
Informed sources said that a troll factory had been spreading false information for several days using computer bots, hiding behind the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, launched by the Palestinian civil society two decades ago, to aid struggling competing brands.
