The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) received international recognition for its innovative T3 (Trust, Track, and Trace) Startup technological project on “Government and Citizen Engagement” at the World Summit Awards (WSA), according to a university press release issued on Wednesday.
T3, headquartered at UM6P’s “StartGate” startup campus, received the award for its solutions supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs include quality education, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequality, peace, justice, and effective institutions.
Developed by Rafiq El Alami, Head of the Digital Innovation Center of Excellence (DICE) within UM6P and Hafid Griguer, Deputy Director of DICE, this software solution provides institutions, recruiters and managers with a secure mechanism for creating and verifying information for diplomas and phygital badges, combined with their blockchain-based platform, “Beyond scanners” and phygital signatures.
The technology creates a unique digital identity for diplomas, based on their physical characteristics, stored on a microchip embedded in the hard-copy document. The provenance can be verified using any phone with a camera or NFC reader.
“This recognition reflects the University’s commitment to innovation and excellence, marking a significant step toward realizing its ambition to revolutionize global education and certification,” stated UM6P in a release, unveiling an awards ceremony slated for April 14-17 in Chile, South America.
The WSA, established in 2003 as part of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), serves to achieve the UN’s sustainable development goals by honoring local digital material with societal value and highlighting the wealth and diversity of creative applications.
Every year, WSA recognizes the most impactful and sustainable digital innovations. Out of 466 nominated projects from 100 UN member nations, the T3 solution stood out at each round, leading to Morocco winning the international competition.
