Moroccan and Mauritanian Ministers Discuss Infrastructure Cooperation

Mauritania’s Minister of Equipment Mohamed Aly Ould Sidi Mohamed, who is currently on a visit to Morocco, met with Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka on Tuesday.

The two officials discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the area of infrastructure, exchanging know-how with respect to technology, and expanding the partnership between the Moroccan Public Testing and Studies Laboratory (LPEE) and the Mauritanian National Laboratory for Public Works (LNTP).

The ministers also discussed a roadmap for infrastructure and port development as well as the launch of a technical study on strengthening the Nouakchott-Nouadhibou road and participating in the construction of several infrastructure projects in Nouakchott to improve traffic flow in the Mauritanian capital.

Morocco and Mauritania signed thirteen agreements and memoranda of understanding in March 2022 during the eighth session of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint High Commission, held in Rabat.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met last month with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk on Jan 22, 2024.

The two foreign ministers focused on the strong and unique relationship between Morocco and Mauritania, which is founded on historical, geographical, and ancestral connections.
