Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie on Sunday.
According to a diplomatic source, the two countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and agro-processing and have signed significant agreements to establish a large agricultural fertilizer production complex, with investments in excess of four billion dollars. The agreements should enable Ethiopia to become self-sufficient in a few years.
Morocco and Ethiopia are also working to expand agreements signed several years ago covering trade, investment, tourism, taxation, agriculture, water, and irrigation.
While no information was released regarding the specific content of Bourita and Atske-Selassie’s discussions, Ethiopia’s Ambassador Meles Alem stated in a subsequent media briefing that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has had fruitful engagements with various African leaders and heads of international organizations to further boost Ethiopia’s diplomatic prospects.
Rabat and Addis Ababa are expected to hold bilateral Joint Ministerial Commission meetings soon.
