The National Tourism Office (ONMT) signed a five-year partnership with the Nigerian tour operator Wakanow on Thursday to boost the tourism sector in Morocco.
ONMT’s Director General Adel El Fakir and CEO of the Nigerian tour operator Wakanow Adedeji Adebayo signed the agreement.
The partnership seeks to attract 5,000 tourists for the 2024 summer season from the Nigerian market and around 66,000 tourists from the rest of the African continent by 2029.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Morocco will host, is expected to attract a significant influx of tourists from Africa and the African diaspora in Europe.
ONMT and Wakanow will launch an aggressive marketing campaign in the region. The communication strategy will target all channels, including outdoor advertising, digital platforms, social media, and influencer marketing, as well as offline activities with extensive coverage in major African media outlets.
Wakanow operates a network of 47 travel agencies across Africa, totaling 237 travel agents, along with a call center employing 160 operators. As a leader in the West African region, Wakanow stands out as one of the most robust online travel agencies on the African continent, particularly in Nigeria.
The air connections between Morocco and Nigeria also support the goals of ONMT and Wakanow. Nigeria benefits from strong regional air coverage through its multiple airlines, as Morocco’s carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) already owns a direct Casablanca-Lagos route, in addition to its extensive network connecting major cities and capitals across Africa.
