Mawazine, Morocco’s largest music festival, will make a comeback in June for the first time since the COVID-19 epidemic prompted a statewide lockdown four years ago.
The 19th of what is normally an annual event will take place in Rabat from June 21 to 29, featuring a stunning roster of national and international musicians.
Mawazine attracted approximately three million people in 2018, making it not only Morocco’s but one of the world’s largest music events.
In 2019, the 18th annual Mawazine Festival drew a staggering 2,750,000 people to hear the 200 artists who performed on the festival’s six stages.
Mawazine Festival-Rhythms of the World was founded in 2001 to promote cultural tolerance, openness, respect, and communication. Most of the festival’s events (90%) are free to the public, attracting thousands of music aficionados from all across the country and increasing domestic tourism.
The event is sponsored by the Maroc Cultures Association, a non-profit organization created in 2001. The Mawazine Festival and the Generation Mawazine youth music contest are the organization’s two primary events, showcasing cultural experiences across Morocco.
