The African Union’s (AU) Executive Council continued its 44th regular session in Addis Ababa on Thursday, with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in attendance ahead of the Union Summit slated for February 17-18.
The Moroccan delegation included the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi; Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation and Director of Greater Maghreb/AMU Ambassador Mohamed Methqal; and AU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Boukili.
At this session, the foreign ministers of the 54 AU member nations will review the 47th regular session of the Permanent Representatives Committee’s report, as well as the annual report on the Union’s operations, bodies, and designated leaders.
The Foreign Ministers will also consider the report on the activities of the 2023 theme, “Accelerating the Implementation of the AfCFTA,” and the review of the roadmap for the 2024 theme, “Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa.”
The agenda also includes the Chairperson of the AU Commission’s report on the operationalization of the AU Peace Fund, the Council of Ministers of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the Pan-African Parliament’s report on its current condition.
The Pan-African organization’s Executive Council will also vote on the election of ten African Union Peace and Security Council members, as well as the election and appointment of ten African Space Council members, including the Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
