Rachid Talbi Alami and Enaam Mayara, the Heads of Morocco’s Upper and Lower Houses respectively, inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rolando Redondo Guifarro, President of the National Congress of the Republic of Honduras, and Vice-President of the Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico (FOPREL), on Wednesday in Rabat.
The memorandum aims to promote cooperation and coordination between the two parliamentary bodies, establishing regular consultations on shared interests and committing to coordinated efforts at regional, continental, and international levels.
The deal comprises the creation of communication and interaction channels through the exchange of visits, experiences, information, and documents. This move marks a step toward developing ties between the Moroccan and Honduran parliaments.
At the signing ceremony, Rolando Redondo Guifarro announced the creation of the Honduras-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group to “strengthen relations of cooperation between the two countries,” highlighting a number of opportunities and promising prospects due to Morocco’s status as the gateway to Africa and Honduras’ central position in Latin America.
Talbi Alami and Mayara underlined their desire to strengthen parliamentary relations with the National Congress of Honduras and develop close interactions within the FOPREL Forum, to which the Moroccan Parliament has been an observer member since 2014.
Guifarro is visiting Morocco to take part in the work of the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation, which is being held on Thursday and Friday in Rabat, at the initiative of the Upper House and the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA).
