For the second day in a row, French newspaper Le Figaro has featured Morocco’s “must-see” sites and cities. Today, it focuses on Mazagan, the old colonial name for El Jadida, a coastal city south of Casablanca known for its history and beautiful long white sandy coastline–and an Eldorado for golf lovers.
In the sky above Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, the sun radiates over sea and surf, illuminating the possibility of a quiet escape to play some golf.
Marwann Chamsseddine, the resort’s Golf Director, told the French paper that from his first sight of the location in 2009, he knew that Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort would be a “unique gem” among golf resorts.
Mazagan’s eighteen holes offer a truly exceptional experience, he assures. With high quality upkeep of the rolling greens all year round, the variety of holes is a delight for both very good players and amateurs in search of a thrill.
Beginning at hole 8, a dazzling spectacle unfolds. The course runs along the seafront, with a succession of splendid vantage points, each more vivid than the last. The wind, which never fails to make an appearance coming in from the ocean or up from the desert, adds to the challenge.
After the game, golfers may choose from a wide range of activities, both indoor and outdoor.
Several sports areas offer ideal settings to work on your swing or to practice chipping and putting. An on-site tennis academy has three clay courts. The equestrian center invites guests to go horseback riding on the long white sandy beach. Located on the Atlantic, those with a passion for water sports can go windsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, and even float in a regular old dinghy.
There are plenty of relaxation areas to suit all tastes. The Grand Riad surrounds a huge swimming pool and also features a luxurious Spa with Hammam and massage rooms, with relaxing treatments aimed directly at golfers. A farm and herbarium, a veritable treasure trove of local agricultural products, surprises.
In the evening, the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort offers a large selection of restaurants with a variety of cuisines (Mediterranean, Lebanese, fish and shellfish, etc.).
Of its 500 rooms, the Grand Riad boasts 32 Mazagan or Executive suites, plus the one and only Royal Suite, located on the 5th and top floor of the central building, facing the sea (approx. 25,000 euros per night). Its bathtub overlooking the ocean is a little jewel of well-being and rejuvenation.
One of Morocco’s seven casinos is located in the hotel, with roulette and blackjack tables, as well as slot machines.
The 250-hectare estate is thought to have existed since the port of Mogador, where Portuguese navigators built a fortress in 1514. With year-round sunshine and an average temperature that hovers around 20 degrees Celsius in the heart of the European winter, Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort is an ideal destination — just a three-hour flight from Paris — for golfers in search of a sporting change of scenery, well-being and relaxation at any time of year, the best period being from May to November.
Currently undergoing a renovation, by the summer of 2024, all the resort’s rooms will have been completely redone.
