The 25th international meeting of “Global Entrepreneurship Monitor” (GEM) opens in Casablanca, Morocco from Monday to Thursday, marking the first time this event has been held in an African country since its inception in 1999.
The GEM, a research institution launched by the London Business School in the United Kingdom and Babson College in the United States, is the largest global survey on entrepreneurship. With nearly 100 national teams involved, it measures entrepreneurial activity globally.
Morocco has participated in its surveys since 2015 through the “Entrepreneurship & SME” Laboratory at Hassan II University in Casablanca. Each year, the GEM analyzes entrepreneurial activities and attitudes in more than 60 countries for the previous year.
At this year’s meeting, over 300 researchers and academics from all over the world are expected to meet with policymakers, practitioners, and other key stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to explore current trends and recent advances in the field of entrepreneurship.
The conference’s scientific program, in collaboration with Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, along with the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, is expected to release a global report on entrepreneurial dynamics for 2023-2024, according to a statement by Hassan II University of Casablanca.
The meeting will include plenary sessions and keynotes addressing the main trends of the GEM’s Adult Population Survey (APS), measuring people’s attitudes, activities, and entrepreneurial aspirations, as well as the National Expert Survey (NES) to evaluate the regulatory conditions for entrepreneurship.
The agenda also presages future conferences for strategic reflection and debate on new challenges in sustainable development, innovation, and economic inclusion, among other topical sessions presenting research findings and roundtable discussions that will assist participants cross perspectives and better understand the impact of public policies and entrepreneurship support programs.
