The 17th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (AP-UfM), the 8th Summit of its presidents—along with meetings of its standing committees, bureau, and extended bureau–will take place on Thursday and Friday at the House of Representatives’ offices.
The meetings will allow for an examination of the situation in the Mediterranean region and the Assembly’s role in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the twenty-first century, as well as the adoption of the standing committees’ and working groups’ reports and recommendations, according to a statement from the House.
The Kingdom’s House of Representatives is a founding member of the AP-UfM and has held the presidency since April 2022, according to the same source, which added that Morocco has historically hosted many of its sessions and standing committee meetings.
The AP-UpM, which seeks to be a platform for Mediterranean conversation and cooperation, convenes at least once a year and brings together elected leaders from European Union nations and their partners in the southern Mediterranean.
It has five standing committees: the Committee on Political Affairs, Security, and Human Rights; the Committee on the Promotion of Quality of Life and Exchanges between Civil Societies and Culture; the Committee on Women’s Rights in Euro-Mediterranean Countries; the Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Water; and the Committee on Economic, Financial, Social, and Educational Affairs.
Also in existence is a Working Group on the Assembly’s financing and the revision of the AP-UfM, which aims to create a venue for Mediterranean conversation and collaboration, meets at least once a year, and brings together elected representatives from EU nations and their partners in southern Mediterranean countries.
