Moroccan footballer Youssef En-Nesyri surpassed the record for the most number of goals scored by a Moroccan player in La Liga, besting the late Moroccan Football icon Larbi Ben Barek, known as “the black pearl”, after scoring twice for FC Sevilla on Monday.
The Moroccan international guided the Sevillians to a much-need 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano at Madrid’s Estadio de Vallecas Stadium, only their second away La Liga win this season.
The result propelled Sevilla to 15th position in La Liga, three points clear of the relegation zone.
En-Nesyri’s goal tally in La Liga now stands at an astounding 60, including two against Rayo Vallecano. He scored 5 goals with Malaga, 13 with Leganes, and 42 with Sevilla, in 278 appearances. As a result, he is now the most prolific Moroccan goalscorer in La Liga history.
Late record holder Larbi Ben Barek had managed to score 58 goals in La Liga for Atletico de Madrid from 1948 to 1953.
