Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, Ambassador of Switzerland to Morocco Guillaume Scheurer, and Director General of the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) signed a cooperation agreement on Friday establishing a Morocco-Switzerland partnership to create a legal framework to govern the protection and use of intellectual property, including protocols to protect intellectual property rights, the promotion of intellectual property among various stakeholders, and the enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The collaboration, spanning 4 years (2024-2027), is intended to aid the protection and promotion of inventions, creations, and trademarks and enhance support systems for entrepreneurs, creators, and researchers in Morocco. It will also provide opportunities for the sharing of knowledge and best practices between the two countries.
Implemented by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) in partnership with the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) and other stakeholders in the national intellectual property system, the program will bolster the tools available to support Moroccan businesses.
It will also help to elevate the value of intangible assets and modernize the protection of industrial and commercial property rights in Morocco, thereby contributing to the country’s economic growth.
