On Monday in Rabat, Major General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) South Zone, received his Gambian equivalent at the FAR General Staff headquarters. Major General and Chief of Defense Staff of Gambia, Mamat O.A. Cham, is in Morocco on official business from February 4-9, according to the FAR statement.
According to the same source, the two high-ranking military officials engaged in discussions regarding multiple areas of collaboration between the Moroccan and Gambian armies, including training expertise and exchange of experiences.
While hailing the two countries’ relations, Berrid and O.A. Cham discussed mechanisms by which to improve their current partnerships and to extend them to other areas of mutual interest, particularly with respect to the organization of their respective militaries and their participation in military exercises.
Marked by mutual trust and respect, Morocco and Gambia enjoy robust relations.
Last month, the two countries inked in Dakhla a series of agreements and memoranda on the heels of the 3rd session of the Morocco-Gambia Joint Commission, co-chaired by Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, and Gambia’s FM Mamadou Tangara.
The recent accords seek to increase collaboration between the two African countries in sectors such as customs administration, maritime fishing, transportation, tourism, education, professional training, scholarships, culture, and sports, thereby bolstering existing ties.
