President of the Provisional Kabyle Government in Exile and leader of the Kabylia Self-Determination Movement (MAK), Ferhat Mehenni, announced that April 20 will be the date of the creation of the “Kabylian State,” in an abrupt rebuttal to Algeria’s military regime.
Mehenni set April 20, 2025 as the date for his “unilateral declaration of the independence of the Kabylia Republic, in the event of the refusal of “Algerian occupation” to organize a referendum on the “self-determination of the Kabylian people.”
A few days earlier, the MAK leader had revealed that the Algerian regime had been preparing to commit a massacre against the Kabylia’s inhabitants.
He also noted that three months prior, Algerian intelligence had stockpiled various weapons and ammunition in the tribal area and on Algeria’s Malian border.
