The Fes National Police, in collaboration with Morocco’s territory surveillance services (DGST), arrested 30 individuals on Tuesday and Wednesday, including 18 security officers, a doctor, two nurses, healthcare professionals, and intermediaries, over their alleged involvement in various criminal activities, including extortion, threats, manipulation for exploiting public health services, and trafficking newborns, according to security sources.
Preliminary investigation findings revealed that some of those arrested are accused of functioning as intermediaries in the selling of newborn babies, collaborating with single mothers for financial benefit, and arranging adoptions for families seeking children.
Others are suspected of extorting patients for medical visits, illegally facilitating abortions, and issuing medical certificates with inaccurate information.
Inquiries additionally showed that some of those detained were impersonating people in regulated professions, altering medical appointment calendars, and misusing medical supplies and pharmaceuticals for resale.
A search of the residences of the suspects who are security agents uncovered non-sellable medications, medical equipment, and sums of money.
The suspects are now in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, which is looking at other individuals also possibly connected to these criminal activities.
