Director General of Morocco’s Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) Abderrahim El Hafidi met with Ambassador of Finland to Morocco Marjaana Sall on Tuesday to discuss potential cooperation with respect to drinking water and liquid sanitation.
This meeting was part of a working visit from the Finnish Water Forum (FWF) delegation to Morocco, aimed at launching collaborative projects between the two countries, ONEE said in a statement.
During the meeting, El Hafidi presented ONEE’s projects in the drinking water and liquid sanitation sectors. Discussion primarily focused on opportunities for developing cooperation between ONEE and FWF, particularly in the areas of digitalization of processes, reuse of treated wastewater, and capacity building for better utilization of water resources.
Both parties agreed to explore opportunities for sharing Finnish expertise in innovative technologies and research and development to support the implementation of major projects in ONEE’s investment program for the drinking water sector.
Ambassador for Emerging Markets at the Finnish Foreign Affairs Ministry Eija Rotinen and a delegation from FWF also took part in the meeting.
The Finnish delegation visited ONEE’s International Institute of Water and Sanitation (IEA), a center for capacity building and research activities, as well as the Ain Aouda wastewater treatment plant located in Skhirate-Témara Prefecture near Rabat, which focuses on the reuse of treated wastewater.
