Mohammed Sadiki, Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, and Jean Senahoun, representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Rabat, defining the terms of the collaborative effort and critical measures for the success of the upcoming 33rd session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, which is scheduled to be held in Morocco in April.
This conference is set to explore the key topics of “Resilient agri-food systems and inclusive rural transformation.”
Sadiki, speaking on the occasion, highlighted that the inked MoU strengthens Morocco’s commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive agri-food systems throughout Africa.
He added, “We look forward to hosting the regional community to share experiences, and to explore innovative solutions and strong partnerships for more efficient and resilient agri-food systems.”
The FAO official praised Morocco’s commitment to food security and sustainable development. He deemed the 33rd session a crucial platform for addressing Africa’s current and future agricultural challenges.
Morocco’s FAO regional conference will be divided into two phases. The first phase, a virtual session for high-ranking officials, will focus on food security and agroalimentary system transformation in Africa, set to take place from March 27-29.
The second phase, a ministerial session, is set for April 18-20 in Rabat and will bring together FAO members, UN agencies, intergovernmental organizations, and civil society groups. The conference will be conducted in English, Arabic, French, and Portuguese.
This edition will be attended by key officials including those in finance, trade, industry, forestry, fisheries, environment, science/technology, and health, allowing participants to share best practices, explore new partnerships, and discuss innovative solutions for transforming agri-food systems.
