Morocco Takes Part in 55th Cairo International Book Fair

Eleven Moroccan publishing houses are participating in the 55th Cairo International Book Fair, which is being held from January 24 to February 6.

These publishing houses aim to promote this event as a mechanism by which Egyptian and Arab readers can discover and explore national literary works.

The participating publishers are showcasing books and publications which highlight the history and culture of Morocco and its distinct identity, which combines both authentic heritage and innovative modernity.

Head of the Ministry of Culture’s fair department Abdellah Sadik told MAP that this participation is part of an annual tradition, emphasizing that the Cairo Book Fair remains one of the largest in the world.

He added that the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), is sponsoring the participation of 11 Moroccan publishing houses, offering the Egyptian public and various visitors an overview representing Moroccan thought and creativity.

“This participation reflects the depth of cultural relations between Morocco and Egypt and also represents the presence of Moroccan thought in Egyptian culture and vice-versa,” Sadik said.

Sadik noted that the strong presence of Moroccan publishers at this particular event reflects the Ministry of Culture’s support provided to the Moroccan publishing industry as part of an overall strategy to increase the sector’s inroads at various international book and publishing events.

The 2024 Cairo International Book Fair is held at the Egypt Center for International Exhibitions and Conferences under the slogan “We Create Knowledge, We Preserve the Word.”

Twelve hundred publishers are participating in this event from 70 countries worldwide. The Kingdom of Norway is the guest of honor at the 2024 edition.
