Morocco is hosting the main planning meeting held from January 29 to February 2 in Agadir for the 20th Morocco-USA annual joint military exercise African Lion 2024, announced the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in a statement on Monday.
Military officials from both countries, as well as those from ten other partner countries, are gathering to define the content and conduct of the various activities that will make up African Lion 2024.
The exercise will include training in operational, technical, and procedural areas, as well as in civil-military actions, and with regard to exercises for the decontamination of nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical substances.
African Lion 2024 is scheduled to take place from May 20-31 in several regions of Morocco, including Mehbes.
African Lion is the largest multinational exercise on the African continent. It mobilizes thousands of soldiers, vehicles, and aircraft from both sides of the Atlantic every year.
It also aims to strengthen military cooperation between Morocco and the United States, as well as between other participating countries, and to promote peace and security in the region.
It endeavors to develop interoperability between the FAR and the armed forces of allied countries to address common threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration.
The exercise was launched in 2004 as part of the military cooperation agreement signed between Morocco and the United States in 1982.
