Marrakech and Rabat are hosting political and outreach seminars for relevant stakeholders of African nations to raise awareness for the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) on the Continent, to be attended by U.S. Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins, from January 29 to February 2.
The Under Secretary will also hold a meeting in Rabat with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to discuss U.S.-Morocco bilateral cooperation and security in Africa on Tuesday.
The U.S. State Department reported, “The PSI event is co-chaired by Under Secretary Jenkins and the Moroccan Director for African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Redouane Houssaini, and aims to encourage African countries to endorse the PSI, an enduring global effort to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery systems, and related items.”
The event, the largest ever organized on the African continent with over 30 countries taking part, aims to encourage these nations to support the Proliferation Security Initiative, a sustainable global effort to halt the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Jenkins’ visit will include bilateral meetings with her counterparts from participating states, as well as a demonstration of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defense exercise to showcase consensus-building opportunities for signatories of the initiative.
