The Malian army has finally understood the “dirty game” of Algeria’s generals who want to make Mali Algeria’s “backyard” and transform it into a “vassal” state, as they did to Tunisia, President of the Provisional Kabyle Government in Exile and leader of the Kabylia Self-Determination Movement (MAK) Ferhat Mehenni tweeted on Saturday.
The tweet came after the announcement that Mali had abruptly terminated the “Algiers Accords” signed by Algeria and Tuareg rebels in 2015 in Algiers, Algeria, due to other signatories not having kept their commitments as well as hostility by the deal’s chief broker, Algeria. Mali’s transitional government spokesperson denounced Algeria’s maneuvers and plots to destabilize Mali in a news release.
This “tells us what we have already known for the last 20 years,” Mehenni said in the tweet, that Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) is an “appendage” of the Algerian Secret Services in the Sahel zone.
MAK’s head thanked the Malian authorities for holding a hearing for MAK before the African Union, and assured that Kabylia remains “open to dialogue” that could lead to “sincere support from the Malian Government for the right of the Kabyle people to self-determination.”
The Sahelian country had earlier complained that the Algerian authorities deem Mali Algeria’s “doormat,” decrying the backdrop of contempt and condescension.
Last month, Mali summoned Algeria’s ambassador to answer for “interference” and “unfriendly acts” in connection with reports that the envoy had negotiated with Tuareg insurgents without informing Bamako.
