Morocco welcomed the decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) urging Israel to take “immediate measures” to ensure the protection of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and guarantee the sufficient and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid, said a source from Morocco’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
The source also affirmed the Kingdom’s principled position in support of the just Palestinian cause, rejecting the targeting of civilians and backing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, pursuant to the internationally agreed upon two-state solution.
For his part, Morocco’s Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) called for holding Israeli officials accountable by international courts, and sanctioning them, based on the ICJ decision. The party considered the initial decision by the court “a historic day and a legal victory for the Palestinian people and their sovereignty over their land.”
The party called on the international community and the United Nations to pressure Israel into stopping its heinous war against the Palestinian people, and to comply, immediately and unconditionally, with the Court’s decision.
United Nations Chief António Guterres said that the ICJ decision on provisional measures in the “genocide” case against Israel is binding for all parties. Israel must refrain from any act of killing, attack and destruction against the people of Gaza and take all measures to prevent genocide, and it must cease its military operations in Gaza, he added.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al Maliki reacted to the ruling saying “the ICJ judges assessed the facts and the law, they ruled in favor of humanity and international law.”
Iran’s foreign minister also called for Israeli authorities to face justice after the verdict.
The Spanish Foreign Ministry called on all parties to respect and comply with these measures in their entirety. Once again, Spain reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of hostages, an immediate and regular humanitarian access and the need to move towards the implementation of the two-state solution.
