Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) is highlighting the cities of Tangier and Ouarzazate in a massive 130 m2 booth at the 44th Spanish International Tourism Fair (FITUR) that is taking place in Madrid from Jan. 24-28.
ONMT General Manager Adel El Fakir is leading a large delegation of Moroccan public and private sector operators taking part in this year’s trade show, considered by many a “must” among major international trade fairs.
The main tourism players operating in the Iberian markets are expected to attend, with some 150 tourism professionals from all regions of Morocco, as well as Morocco’s national airline Royal Air Maroc.
The Spanish market led the way in terms of growth and recovery of tourist flows in 2023, with 2.8 million Spanish tourists visiting Morocco as of the end of Nov. 2023, an increase of 38% y-o-y.
Air capacity has increased by 14% so far this winter 2023-24, and prospects for summer 2024 point to an 8% increase, with new air services planned to start in April, such as the direct routes of Zaragoza-Fez, Zaragoza-Ouarzazate, Murcia-Marrakesh and Tenerife-Marrakesh.
The Iberian Peninsula is the second largest source of foreign tourists to the Kingdom after France, representing a considerable number of potential tourists.
