Global support for Israel has seen a significant drop since the beginning of the war in Gaza on October 7, according to Morning Consult, a data and analytics firm.
The company’s findings indicate that the overall net positive perception of Israel, after accounting for negative opinions, decreased by an average of 18.5 percentage points worldwide between September and December. This decline was observed in 42 out of 43 countries included in the survey.
The most notable decrease in support was observed in wealthy countries that already held a negative view of Israel. For instance, Japan’s perception dropped from -39.9 to -62.0, South Korea’s from -5.5 to -47.8, and the UK’s from -17.1 to -29.8.
“The data shows just how tough of a road Israel has right now in the international community,” said Sonnet Frisbie, who serves as Deputy Head of Political Intelligence at Morning Consult.
The survey revealed that the U.S.–as an extreme anomaly here–was the only developed country to maintain a net positive view of Israel, with its net favorability decreasing by just 2.2 percentage points from 18.2 to 16 between September and December.
The Gaza Health Ministry acknowledged on Sunday in a press release that the Palestinian death toll in Gaza has now surpassed 25,000.
The Israeli military stated that it has taken out approximately 9,000 Hamas militants, while 195 of its soldiers have been killed since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza.
