Morocco’s phosphates and fertiliser producer “Office Chérifien des Phosphates – OCP”, a global leader in phosphates, has secured approval to establish “OCP Sport Development,” a subsidiary dedicated to advancing Moroccan football, according to the January 15th Official Gazette.
This initiative comes with a substantial investment of 378 million MAD.
In line with the Kingdom’s ambitions for both the 2030 World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, OCP Sport Development is dedicated to revolutionizing football.
The initiative, allocating a 39 million MAD initial capital budget, is focused on improving governance, providing high-quality training, and building top-notch sports infrastructure.
The subsidiary, which is overseen by the Moroccan Football Federation, will organize strategic actions in cities close to OCP’s major mining and industrial facilities, such as Khouribga, El Jadida, and Safi. Sixty percent of the financing will be derived from OCP’s internal funds, while 40% will come from bank loans. Over a 25-year period, an aggressive 54% internal rate of return is anticipated.
Raising the bar for talent identification, developing a pathway for academic achievement in conjunction with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and collaborating with international sporting institutions are but a few of OCP Sport Development’s primary objectives.
This endeavor sets Morocco up for success in sports circles and for international recognition, as well as constitutes an essential step in the promotion of Moroccan football.
