Marrakech Judicial Police arrested and detained a 32-year-old British citizen on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in forgery and the use of a false identity, as a result of a cooperation between Moroccan and British security authorities, Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) announced.
At the request of British authorities, Interpol had issued a red notice for the man who is now in custody in connection with a drug trafficking case, money laundering, and alleged illegal possession of firearms.
An investigation carried out by the national police identified the suspect’s location as Marrakech, according to a security source. The police discovered that he had entered Morocco illegally using falsified foreign identification documents.
The man is now in custody pending further investigation into his use of a false identity and forgery of documents. Extradition proceedings to the UK are also underway.
