LafargeHolcim Maroc inaugurated the “Sustainable Construction Lab” (SCL) in Casablanca on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment for construction in Morocco and Africa. The Research and Development (R&D) center, part of Holcim’s global network, is set to become a regional reference for innovative and sustainable construction practices.
Led by CEO Jose Antonio Primo, the SCL houses eight specialized engineers and technicians, focusing on construction materials and techniques.
Equipped with advanced machines, the center spans 600 square meters, offering a significant space for large-scale testing.
Primo emphasized at the inauguration the immersive experience offered by the SCL, which enables visitors to explore a wide variety of environmentally friendly building materials created by LafargeHolcim Maroc.
Mohamed El Haddad, Director of SCL, provided an overview of the center’s objectives, highlighting its role in fostering innovation and technical expertise, fortifying alliances, and fostering the development of talents.
The Holcim Group subsidiary LafargeHolcim Maroc recorded strong financial results in 2023, with a robust revenue of 7.9 billion MAD. With around 2,580 employees and a 13.5 million-ton-per-year cement-producing capacity, the company is still a major force in the advancement of creative and sustainable building solutions in the area.
