The Tanzanian Football Federation condemned Algerian national team coach Adel Amrouche’s provocative statements, which included unfounded accusations against the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
“We don’t support the statement by our head coach Adel Amrouche after the coach accused Morocco of dominating African football and organizing referees who officiate in their matches,” Tanzania Football Federation President Wallace Karia told local media Azam TV.
“We categorically do not support the statement as we respect Morocco for their hard work in developing football and will know what to do in regards to the coach’s careless and provocative statement,” Karia added.
Amrouche accused FRMF prior to the match with Tanzania of holding undue power and influence in African football. He claimed that the federation forced Tanzania to play their recent match in the evening despite Tanzania preferring to play in the early afternoon.
“Currently, the FRMF is a confirmed power in the African football world. They manage and determine everything, including referees,” Amrouche had said.
The CAF Disciplinary Committee summoned Amrouche to appear before them following these accusations.
The committee is expected to issue sanctions against the Algerian coach who attempted to tarnish the reputation of the national football and its institutions.
Morocco’s national football team commenced the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) by winning the tournament against Tanzania (3-0) on Wednesday in Laurent Pokou Stadium in Côte d’Ivoire.
After the match, Amrouche said that the match was a difficult one, especially under the weather conditions in the Côte d’Ivoire.
“We should not compare the two teams currently, but may be we can in the future,” he said. “So far, the Moroccan team is better than us,” he added.
