Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, kicked off their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) participation, roaring to victory against Tanzania (3-0) on Wednesday in Laurent Pokou Stadium in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Atlas Lions took the lead with a goal netted by Romain Ghanem Saïss in the 30th minute. The captain of the national team and defender of Al Shabab Saudi Club, capitalized on a goalkeeper error after Hakim Ziyech’s robust free kick.
In the 77th minute of the second half, Azzedine Ounahi contributed the second goal, while Youssef En-Nesyri sealed the victory with an impressive third goal in the 81st minute.
The 3-0 scoreline was not only a significant win for Morocco, but it also represented the largest margin in the current CAN competition so far.
The Moroccan lineup featured key players like Hakim Ziyech, Achraf Hakimi, Saiss, En-Nesyri, Ounahi, Yassine Bounou, and many others.
The Atlas Lions are competing in Group F of the AFCON in San Pedro. They are scheduled to play the Leopards (DR Congo) on Sunday, January 21, at 3 p.m. The group stage will conclude on Wednesday, January 24, at 9 p.m., with a match against the Chipolopolo of Zambia.
