Morocco secured an impressive haul of 20 medals, including 5 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze, showcasing its prowess at the Second Arab Age Group Aquatics Championship in Doha, held on January 10 to 15.
The open water swimming contests held on Monday at the Old Doha Port, marked the culmination of the sporting event. Moroccan swimmers added three medals to their tally during the finals of the competition: one gold, one silver, and one bronze.
In the 5 km competition for the 16-17 age group, Malak Maqdar claimed the gold medal for the girls, while Ilias El Fallaki secured third place among the boys.
The national mixed relay team earned the silver medal in the challenging 6 km event, featuring outstanding performances from swimmers Malak Maqdar, Nada Raktatoui, Mohamed Malki, and Ilias El Fallaki.
Over 400 juvenile swimmers from 17 countries participated in the swimming championship, which featured a comprehensive program including open water swimming, water polo, and freestyle swimming.
Looking ahead, Qatar is poised to host the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships from February 2 to 18, further solidifying the region’s prominence in the aquatic sports arena.
The first Arab Age Group Aquatics Championship was held in Cairo back in 2022.
