Bulgaria hailed Morocco’s efforts to resolve the Sahara issue as “serious and credible” on Wednesday, characterizing the Kingdom’s Autonomy Plan presented in 2007 as a “fundamentally serious, credible, and realistic” basis for conflict resolution.
Bulgaria’s expression of support was conveyed through a joint statement signed in Rabat by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Gabriel.
Bulgaria reaffirmed its support in the joint declaration for UN-led efforts to establish a fair, pragmatic, and sustainable political resolution for the Sahara issue.
The two parties also reiterated their support for the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy, Staffan de Mistura, who is encouraging the parties to engage in negotiations and make progress in the political process.
They also endorsed the United Nations Mission in the Sahara (MINURSO).
Bulgaria’s minister also applauded Morocco’s new development model and constructive efforts in Africa, highlighting major reforms under King Mohammed VI’s leadership and his efforts toward political, economic, and social development of the Kingdom.
