Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed the durability of Morocco-Spain relations in a statement on Wednesday, at the opening of the 8th Conference of accredited Spanish ambassadors abroad.
Sanchez said that the relationship between the two countries has “reached a high level of strength and trust,” and added that these ties will always be a priority for Madrid.
“I believe we must continue to reinforce these relations,” added Sanchez, reflecting on the remarkable developments that took place during Morocco and Spain’s High-Level Meeting in Rabat last year.
He stated that the gathering signified the start of a “new chapter in bilateral relations” and resulted in “the biggest ministerial participation and the largest number of agreements signed in the history of the two countries’ cooperation.”
Sanchez highlighted the importance of expanded Mediterranean-based interaction in addressing illegal immigration and its related concerns.
He reiterated the necessity of maintaining peace and security in the Sahel region as important priorities for both Spain and Europe.
