A budget of more than 36 million MAD has been set aside to fund the upgrade project of the Oued El Kennar tourism destination in the Chefchaouen province in the Kingdom’s northern regions.
This integrated project will be financed through a partnership agreement signed by multiple stakeholders, including the General Directorate of Territorial Communities, the Ministry of Tourism, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council, the Agency for Promotion and Development of the North (APDN), the Chefchaouen Provincial Council, and the Bni Selmane and Stehat Community Councils.
Tourist circuits, a surveillance center, recreational spaces, a play zone for kids, a summer camp, and parking facilities are all planned, as is the construction of a visitors center.
Scheduled to be completed between 2024 and 2025, the project also involves crosswalks adorned by artwork, a security center, and first aid facilities.
The project aims to transform the entire area into a tourism destination, thereby enhancing the region’s potential for strengthening infrastructure, supporting further tourism investments, encouraging competitiveness, and creating employment opportunities.
Northern Morocco’s Oued El Kennar River is famous for its natural beauty and traditional mountain culture. It boasts turquoise swimming pools, waterfalls, and seaside campsites.
The upcoming upgrades are intended to preserve the valley’s attractiveness while also rendering it a vibrant tourism attraction in itself. The valley provides a unique environment chock full of biodiversity, while it is situated close to the beach for people who enjoy such recreational activities.
