BBC Sport Africa just released a little over one-minute video clip on Morocco’s football infrastructure, notably the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, demonstrating how such facility is important for both junior and senior players.
Posted on Friday with the caption “With just over a week to go until the first whistle is blown and the first ball is kicked at AFCON 2023, @BBCSportAfrica has taken a look at how Morocco’s training facilities might help them to lift the trophy,” the video showcases the state-of-the-art facility that could play a part in the Atlas Lions’ quest for their second AFCON title in Côte d’Ivoire.
In the video, journalist Ian Williams showed an impressive 300.000 m2 complex that cost 65 million USD to see the light of day. The sports complex comprises eight training pitches, two tennis courts, football beach terrains, a gym space, a swimming pool, and a medical care center, among others amenities. The clip also features a luxury hotel for the players.
Since its inception in 2019, the facility has been recycling its water and running on solar power.
Morocco’s national football squad will fly to San Pedro (Côte d’Ivoire) on Sunday for the AFCON tournament, which will take place from January 13 to February 11.
Their warm-up friendly against Sierra Leone on January 11 substitutes the originally scheduled encounter against Gambia on January 7 in Rabat.
The Atlas Lions will play their group stage matches against DR Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania.
